What kind of allergies do you treat at your clinic?

Our facility can diagnose and treat a variety of allergies that commonly affect children. Some of the most common allergies we treat include:

How do I know what my child is allergic to so I can get treatment for them?

Sometimes, it is straightforward to determine what a child is allergic to, depending on symptoms appearing when they interact with a particular allergen, like pollen or eating a specific food. Other times, symptoms from an allergy might not appear until several hours afterward, making it hard to pinpoint the cause. At our allergy clinic in Fremont, we can test your child for a variety of allergies in a safe, controlled setting that will give us the answers we need. Many parents are surprised to learn that their children are allergic to multiple things, not just one or two. This information goes a long way to help develop a treatment plan to reduce their allergy symptoms.

There are several ways to test for allergies, including blood tests and skin prick testing. Patch testing is also available to test for contact allergies. For this test, we place a series of adhesive patches to the patient’s back containing possible allergens. After several days, the patches are removed and we examine the skin where the patch was applied for signs of a reaction. Redness and irritation of the skin typically indicates an allergic response.

Can you cure my child of their allergies?

Unfortunately, there is no known cure for allergies with medications like what would be used to treat a common cold or strep throat. However, our clinic does offer several allergy desensitization treatments. During these treatments, we initially expose your child to a highly diluted formulation of their allergen(s), allowing for them to accept it without reaction. As the body begins to tolerate these small doses, the dosage is increased very gradually over time under the careful guidance of your child’s provider. While the process may seem lengthy to build tolerance, the ultimate goal is to allow your child to become relatively asymptomatic during exposure. In some cases, it may seem as though reactions to the allergens are fully suppressed. The decision to pursue desensitization is highly individualized, and there me be some limitations that would make this treatment more challenging. A comprehensive and thorough evaluation by our pediatric care providers will help determine which type of treatment, if any is best for your child’s well-being.
